Protecting adults from abuse and harm is one of the main concerns for public organisations in County Durham.
Authorities including Durham County Council, Durham Constabulary, the Probation Service, Care Quality Commission and the NHS have worked in partnership to provide advice, information and details on how to report abuse where it concerns an adult.
What is abuse?
There are many different types of abuse and they all result in behaviour towards a person that deliberately or unintentionally causes harm. It is a violation of an individual's human and civil rights and in the worst cases can result in death.
Reporting abuse?
Whoever you are, if you see, hear or know something that concerns you and suspect a person is being harmed or abused, you must report what you know. The worst thing you can do is nothing.

Dignity in Care
The term dignity refers to a person's right to respect and ethical treatment in the care they receive. It is increasingly high on the list of priorities for all agencies. The Department of Health's Dignity in Care Campaign is one example of what is being done to highlight the importance of considering dignity as an integral part of all the work we do.
The dignity newsletter showcases examples of how dignity for all is being championed in County Durham. It focuses on sharing examples of good practice in improving dignity as well as highlighting what is happening within agencies that could make a difference and ensure dignity is at the forefront of everything we do.
You can view or download copies of the dignity newsletter from the Safeguarding Adults website.
