Adaptations to council properties

An adaptation is a change to your home, which increases your independence and safety in daily activities.  It also helps your carer look after you more easily. Any Durham City Homes tenant who has difficulty with daily living due to illness, age or disability, can apply for an adaptation.

Examples of adaptations are:

  • grab rails
  • hand rails
  • stair rails
  • stair lifts
  • ramps
  • level access showers

If you are a Durham City Homes tenant and want further information about adaptations to your property, you can contact us using the details provided below. A special needs officer will then contact you to arrange a visit to look at your situation.

If you live in an East Durham Homes or a Dale and Valley Homes property, or are an owner/occupier or private tenant, and want further information on adaptations to your home, please contact Social Care Direct.
